COVID-19 UPDATE
If you or your family have recently become uninsured due to the health and economic crisis caused by COVID-19, you may now qualify for public health insurance, premium assistance, or other supports and services to help meet your family's basic needs. Visit https://www.tnjustice.org/find-assistance/ for more information.
Under federal law, no child should lose their public health insurance (TennCare and CoverKids). Please call (615)-255-0331 or fill out this form if your child has lost health insurance.
OUR GOAL
Insure Our Kids is a statewide campaign to enroll every uninsured child who is eligible for health insurance. Together we can raise public awareness of TennCare and CoverKids and connect families to enrollment assistance.
In 2017, there were an estimated 71,000 uninsured children in Tennessee, and out of that number, 47,199 uninsured children qualify for CHIP or Medicaid. From 2016 to 2017, for the first time in nearly a decade, the number of uninsured children increased.
The increase in uninsured children is directly linked to declining enrollment in public insurance programs. Tennessee leads the nation with the largest drop in enrollment in Medicaid and CHIP (10.1%), with at least 88,000 children losing coverage in 2018 alone. This is largely due to our state Medicaid program redetermining eligibility. Through the Insure Our Kids campaign, we plan to enroll every eligible child in TennCare or CoverKids, especially children who are disenrolled improperly through the redetermination process.
Partners provide training, education and resources to people who may encounter uninsured children. They are leading a statewide public awareness campaign and lending all their knowledge and experience to help reach children without insurance.
